Are your Bollards Impact Rated or just a “Deterrent”?

We searched “Steel Bolt Down Bollards” and checked with the top four suppliers to see if they could provide an impact rating. To our surprise, we learned that these bollards are not tested for impact, and in one case we were told they are considered just a “deterrent”. I see bolt down steel bollards in front of pedestrian walkways, machines, electrical panels, doorways, pallet racks, etc. all the time and I am certain the reason they were installed was to absorb an impact.

The good news is that we provide polymer bolt down bollards that are tested and rated to up to 24,000 Joules of impact. As an example, this would stop a 15,000lb forklift traveling at 6mph.

If you rely on steel bolt down bollards to keep your people and assets safe, we would be happy to visit and make some recommendations based on the actual risk. We have polymer bollards and guardrail rated from 2,000 to 24,000 Joules of impact resistance and an impact calculator, so we can pick the most cost effective solution that is right for your needs.

Check out this quick video that shows why polymer guarding makes so much more sense than steel:

Lastly, here are 5 advantages of polymer guardrails over steel:

  • Highly reduced damage to anchors and concrete due to impacts.
  • Less damage to forklifts and forklift drivers.
  • Little to no barrier maintenance required (no more painting steel).
  • Reduced likelihood of product contamination due to paint or concrete chips.
  • No rust.

If you need installation help, we can do that too.
