Restart protection for robotic cells and full body access areas on machines is becoming more and more popular. Our clients want to rely less on visual inspection or systems that require operators to perform tasks to ensure personnel are out of the danger zone. They want confirmation that it is safe to start a machine to be automated.
We are finding that Safety Radar Systems are often the best method of restart protection.
Safety Radar Systems scan the danger area for 4 seconds and if they do not sense movement, they allow the machine to restart.
One of the really helpful features is that because the sensors sense movement, the environment can change. An item can be moved into or out of the safety zone and as long as it does not move when the machine is restarted, it will be ignored. Humans are always protected, because even if they stand completely still, the sensor picks up the micro-movements of their breathing.
Here are a few other features of Safety Radars:
- Access Protection in the same sensor, so the same system can perform both restart and access protection.
- 3D Sensing Area in a cone shape, with the size of that cone able to be controlled through software.
- Immune to debris such as dust, splashing liquids, smoke and light.
